The Toledo Police Dept. reports that a two Toledo woman were seriously injured in a Lucas County crash on February 21st. Karen Montgomery, 67, of Toledo was driving her car westbound on N. Detroit Ave. approaching the intersection with US 24. A vehicle northbound on US 24 ran a red light at the intersection, striking the Montgomery vehicle. Marvina Pettaway, 37, of Toledo was operating the northbound vehicle.
The Police report that Ms. Pettaway ran a red light, causing the collision. The Police also indicate that Ms. Pettaway may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
Both women were seriously injured in the crash and were transported by EMS to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Toledo for treatment.
According to the Ohio State Patrol, since 2020 there have been over 61 thousand OMVI crashes, approximately 3,400 fatalities and over 81 thousand arrests. A large percentage of state wide fatalities involved alcohol use. Hamilton, Franklin and Cuyahoga Counties have experienced the most crashes during that time period and account for almost a third of all OMVI crashes.
