The State Patrol reports that a Grove City man was seriously injured in a Franklin County crash with a tractor-trailer on February 11th. Aaron Lucas Francis, 22, of Grave City was travelling southbound on Haughn Rd. when a northbound tractor-trailer turned left in front of him, striking the Francis vehicle head-on. Minh Pham, 54 of Columbus was operating the heavy truck and was cited by the Patrol from failure to yield on a left hand turn.
Mr. Francis was seriously injured in the crash and was transported by EMS to Grant Hospital in Columbus for treatment. Mr. Pham was not injured in the collision.
According the US Department of Transportation, there were over 168,000 collision involving large trucks in the US in 2023. Over 4,900 people were killed in these crashes and in excess of 71, 000 people sustained injury.
In Ohio in 2023, 150 motorists or pedestrians were killed in wrecks involving large trucks. The major factors leading to truck crashes are an increased demand for goods delivered by trucks, distracted driving, pressure to deliver loads on time, and drug and alcohol use by truck drivers and motorists.
