The State Patrol reports that an Ashland, KY man was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash in Lawrence County, on February 3rd. Jordan Pool, Jr., 31, was operating a motorcycle westbound on SR 243 when he was struck by a SUV owned by the Village of Coal Grove. The SUV was heading south on US 52 exit ramp and turned right onto US 43 when it collided with Pool. The SUV was being operated by Landon Johnson, 21, city unknown. The Patrol reports Johnson failed to yield at a stop sign.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, there were 3,878 motorcycle crashes in Ohio in 2023, leading to 230 fatalities. The majority of these crashes occurred between the months of May and September. The major causes of motorcycle crashes include increased traffic during those months, road hazards such as roadway construction and debris from summer storms, and reckless behavior, such as impaired driving, speed and riding without a helmet.
